Leadership La Plata (LLP), the diverse, all-volunteer organization designed to educate and train community leaders from throughout the county, has announced its new class for 2010-2011.
The LLP Selection Committee – comprised of Diane Becket, Nancy Wharton, Buck Skillen, Dave Schranck and Greg Vlaming – selected 18 candidates from a highly qualified field of dynamic individuals. Class members are Tim Birchard (Durango Adult Education Center), Cindy Coleman (Duck Girl Art), Sara Comerford (Manna Soup Kitchen), Kevin Culhane (Honeyville), Nathan Disser (Southwest Adventure Guides), Kalvin Evans (Four Corners Segway & Xodus Ventures), Wendy Haugen (Foundation for Protection of Animals), Kara Hellige (US Army Corp of Engineers) and Ted Holteen (Durango Herald).
Rounding out the class are Mika Kusar (Fort Lewis College, School of Business), Abigail Lambert (Durango Public Library), Julie Levy (Regional Housing Alliance), Dianne Milner (Bayfield School District), Sean Moore (Sugnet & Moore Environmental), Thomas Morrissey (Retired), Mary Jo Rakowski (La Plata Step-it-Up Coalition), Raequel Rhodes (Durango Bike Fit Chiropractic) and Charles Spence (Maynes, Bradford, Shipps & Sheftel, LLP).
Now in its 23rd year in La Plata County, LLP provides leadership skills training and broad-based education covering all facets of the community. Nearly 350 LLP graduates are currently engaged in community leadership roles, from business and local government to non-profit agencies.
